"People who are the most vulnerable in society benefit the most from having the option to be able to protect themselves," says John Lott, the author of More Guns, Less Crime. He adds that women, the elderly, and "poor blacks who live in high crime areas" are disproportionately deterred from getting firepower when waiting periods are extended and fees rise. I'm not convinced.
So as a black woman surrounded by friendly white gun-owners, why am I nervous?
