I feel funny about shooting now. Seems wrong to blast away something that valuable even though I have plenty.

Serious, want-to-learn question: are y'all expecting some widespread armed conflict or just enjoying the "what-if" scenarios (which I enjoy myself)? I recall similar forum chatter in 2008, which I found to be profitable for buy/sell on forums like this, but otherwise just another 1999-type tempest in a teapot. What am I missing here?

I prefer c-rats to MREs. But since they ain't been made for years, Beanie Weenie, deviled ham, vienna wieners, chili, spam, and ravioli are in my short term storage. Oh, almost forgot, silver and .22 LR for barter

I could eat SPAM 3x/day for about 21 days straight, before I got tired of it. I would gladly do so, if I had to. But I rarely do, because I know how unhealthy it is. Instead, I eat PBJ's 7x/week (with real peanut butter - just ground up peanuts and a little salt - not Jif or Skippy, which are chemicals with a few peanuts thrown in for flavor), unless I have leftover pizza.

    "1999" is an excellent analogy.

I don't think people expect widespread armed conflict so much as they fantasize about and desire it.

Let's face it: there is a certain category of 2A-supporter for whom the movie Red Dawn is a pornographic film. There are your "preppers" and the like.

Me? I'm an old Eagle Scout: I believe in the value of preparedness in all things, to a reasonable degree. I'm an "EDC" guy. I have a flashlight on my keychain. I keep a blanket and a spare jacket in the trunk of my car. I can weather being stuck at home a couple of weeks, and a weeklong power outage (I grew up in a place where the weather can kill you, and that does emphasize the value of preparedness.)

But for some it's a kind of hobby, and can even tread over into "fetish", and those folks are desperately eager to please, please have something happen where I can actually use my rations and my guns. And certainly, a period of social unrest carries promise for those folks!

I do think the pandemic has emphasized the (lost) value of independence - people should have the ability to husband their local natural resources (like their yard) to survive. Gardening, raising chickens, hunting, fixing things, building things and so on. Good for the soul, even if seldom strictly necessary in the modern era.

That depends on where you live doesn't it?

I’m in agreement with “preparedness” and discussion of it being more of a hobby than anything else for most.

How much one lives in the bunker. Whether its just far enough to keep the pantry full or you go in far enough to maintain a locked door to the surface for 90 days.

As I said, the answer is different in you happen to live in or near downtown in Portland, or Seattle, or any of a half dozen other cities that have already had their populations assaulted by the Marxist hyenas. This year has already been worse than other examples provided, and it’s not going to get better any time soon.

Currently Siege Mentality. Currently resupplied at the gate as it were. So I guess a hybrid solution would be the correct answer.
