Why on earth is this such a priority for Democrats? I think I understand their thinking on other issues, like bans and capacity limits and "universal" background checks, but this one I just do not understand.

It fits their agenda of wanting to disarm all people and ban sales of all firearms. This sets a precedent and announces an official policy that if the government has the opportunity to seize a gun, it will do so and destroy it, because guns should be destroyed rather than allowed in civilian hands .

Can democrats really be so stupid as to think that a gun formerly owned by a criminal is any different than a used gun whose prior owner was a totally righteous law-abiding person, or a brand new gun that has not yet been owned by anybody?

Because you can never know when a "Route 91 Harvest" festival might happen in Georgia.
