Hard to believe, but 20 years ago today, the pilot episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was broadcast (episode "Encounter at Farpoint"). It introduced the new crew, the new Enterprise, and the recurring villain "Q'.

I was attending the first Dragon*Con in Atlanta (1987) on this same weekend, and the con ground to a halt while everybody went to their hotel rooms and watched the premier.

Ah...the memories...

That was the nerdgasm, I felt earlier?
I felt it... a great disturbance in the Force.

As if millions of nerds cried out... and were silenced.

As much as I hate the socialist propaganda they distribute across the final frontier, I love that show. And the original series. And, well, most everything but Enterprise.

What's worse- that my friend has two models of the Enterprise-E [among other things], or that I knew it was a Sovereign-class?

Socialist propaganda? I haven't watched the show, but I'm curious about this.

Yeah. The Federation doesn't have money. I was kinda kidding about the propaganda bit. The show doesn't really preach socialism. If anything, it should be commended for the big social issues it has tackled, particularly TOS. In the 60s, Roddenberry put a Russian on the bridge of a starship, along with a black woman and a Japanese guy.

The latest show, Enterprise, had some bad preaching moments.

Yeah, they tried the "we don't use money" angle for a while...but eventually phased it out and claimed they used "Federation Credits".

While I did like TNG, I actually am one of the few who preferred "Deep Space 9" above all the other incarnations. Just better writing, characters, and stories, IMHO.

Aye. While I grew up with TNG, I've really begun to enjoy DS9. I never watched it during its initial run, but I recently started watching them all in order. I'm on season five and loving it.
