Maybe back in the 1970s that was true, but fatal car wrecks are actually less common than they used to be. These days 30,000 is about right. So that's equal to gun deaths, if you accept the figure used in the gun-control advocate's question.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that there were 30,700 fatal vehicle wrecks in 2009, the most recent year the data has been compiled.
How many of the fatal vehicle wrecks did the cars cause?
And how many of them happened in locations off-limits to civilian cars?
