Goodbye 1st amendment.

The 19 Senators Who Voted To Censor The Internet
from the free-speech-isn't-free dept

This is hardly a surprise but, this morning (as previously announced), the lame duck Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to move forward with censoring the internet via the COICA bill -- despite a bunch of law professors explaining to them how this law is a clear violation of the First Amendment....

* Patrick J. Leahy -- Vermont
* Herb Kohl -- Wisconsin
* Jeff Sessions -- Alabama
* Dianne Feinstein -- California
* Orrin G. Hatch -- Utah
* Russ Feingold -- Wisconsin
* Chuck Grassley -- Iowa
* Arlen Specter -- Pennsylvania
* Jon Kyl -- Arizona
* Chuck Schumer -- New York
* Lindsey Graham -- South Carolina
* Dick Durbin -- Illinois
* John Cornyn -- Texas
* Benjamin L. Cardin -- Maryland
* Tom Coburn -- Oklahoma
* Sheldon Whitehouse -- Rhode Island
* Amy Klobuchar -- Minnesota
* Al Franken -- Minnesota
* Chris ***** -- Delaware

Each one of them is a traitor to the US Constitution and specifically the 1st amendment. They are also traitors to their oaths to the Constitution. I see the RINO Lindsey Graham's name on the list. I wish South Carolina would get wise and kick him to the curb!

Leahy - absolute waste of space. He just needs to move to San Francisco and get it over with...

The Commies have exposed themselves. Others are still in hiding.
Game on, and I hope it's bloody. Very bloody.
The term traitor comes to mind...

Oppression of Freedom.
And we are idiots letting them continue to act like that.
I still stand by my comment who said that we are in a civil war right now.
They are doing exactly what the NAZI did in the 30s.
The before the last step is to control the medias and they are close to do it.
Next are the concentration camps. See you there!

Is it me, or does the wording of the bill allow for the DOJ to ignore "fair use" rules at their whim?

I know it is an extreme example, but with the bill the way it is, couldn't the DOJ even decide to shut this site down, because we quote other news articles? This very thread quotes another, copyrighted, source. Who decides if the quoting we do makes the sharing of copyrighted material "central" to the site? I would bet that over half the posts here have quoted material in them.

ETA: Think of it this way. We would not have youtube or anything else like it today if COICA was already in place. Facebook? Gone. Music mash up sites? Gone.

No doubt providing a link to another website somehow affects interstate commerce. :roll:

Yes it does. Actually, the fact that you don't buy something also affects interstate commerce, apparently.

The FDR era decision that said the federal government can regulate and control anything that could possibly have to do with interstate commerce is one of the worst decisions ever given, and it has been, and will continue to be how the government continues to control and regulate every aspect of our lives. It will be the single decision that allows the government to violate everyone of our rights.

That decision needs to be completely reversed, and furthermore, I'd love to see the commerce clause completely wiped off the books forever. I think we'd be better off for it. The Supreme Court has given the federal government entirely too much power to regulate and control every part of our lives.

At this moment, the federal government can do anything they want to us... that we will let them. At some point, I hope Americans will wake up and say enough is enough. Unfortunately, there are so many Americans that agree with these rights infringements, and furthermore, we have people on this very website, which about 50 percent or so hold more libertarian principles than the rest of the population, that agree with infringement on our rights. I don't see enough people waking up at the moment. I hope things will change in the future, but I'm not holding my breathe. I imagine everything will just keep on chugging along until we find ourselves in a Socialist Police State. We are well on our way there, now.

Also, the Tea Party isn't enough. A lot more people are going to have to wake up and stand up before things change. Probably the worst thing that they have on their side is public schools. They indoctrinate our children, the next generation, tell them liberal revisionist history, with quite a few lies and half-truths tied in. Its really a disgrace and its sickening that my property taxes help to fund these government indoctrination centers. That's the battle we're fighting folks. Its for the hearts and minds of our children. Are they going to grow up in a Socialist Police State, or are they going to grow up in the America pre-1861 minus intolerable slavery, of course. That's the real question here.

I think its going to be a Socialist Police State, if I had to put money on it.

Can't regulate something until the moment it occurs.

Is there some way that we can block this list from being put on the facebook, I don’t think this list should be shared and therefore blocked

Want to tell that to the corrupt judge that just ruled that Obamacare is constitutional because "not buying something" affects interstate commerce?

I'm just going to jump in here and say Drewster's comment was a clumsy attempt at sarcasm/irony.
