15 years for grabbing teen girls butt

I just read that a former star athlete, in his 30s, has plead guilty to charges of molesting a teenage girl by grabbing her butt with his hands.
Not raping her. Not having sex with her. It doesn't even say he undressed her.
It says he grabbed her butt. She was 14 years old. No mention of the setting or circumstances.

And now he's looking at 2-15 years in prison, plus sex offender regsitraton for LIFE. Basically like house arrest with an ankle monitor and all that. Like a high level sexual predator.

This seems to be a major over-reaction. Does anybody know the details on this and why such a sentence might NOT be wildly excessive?

The 39-year-old from Shelby Township entered his plea in January in exchange for authorities dropping several other charges.

I suspect those other charges must have been pretty bad for him to agree to that plea.

I think its because in general(and rightfully so), pedophiles are looked at as the worst type of criminal. Both hands on a 14 year old's rear is unacceptable. The fact that he was so brazen indicates he didn't really see anything wrong what he was doing.

15 years, yeah, it's a bit excessive, and he most likely won't get that. 2 years, the bracelet, and the sex offender registration for life yeah absolutely. Makes an example out of him and tells the rest of the creeps to keep their hands off underage girls.

Five other charges, including criminal sexual conduct and accosting a minor for immoral purposes, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

In January 2010, authorities accused Boyd of touching the girl at the school gym and at her Fraser home and having sex with her at a Roseville motel. The girl previously testified that Boyd offered her $5,000 then paid her $200.

If he had sex with a 14 year old girl, in a prostitution setting, then 2 years plus a lifetime of sex offender registry definitely not too much.

After reading the more detailed article that dcannon posted, I agree that it sounds like this encounter (or encounters) went a lot further than him simply grabbing the girl. If he's guilty of any of the charges that he pleaded to have dropped, then his sentence sounds fair to me.

ummmmm....what if it was YOUR 14 year old daughter whose butt he grabbed? Would you feel differently then?

No. I would want to throttle the guy, but that's my job, not the place of the law. But it's sort of a moot point, since based on the plethora of other charges it sounds like he's getting less than what he probably deserves.

The prosecution recommended one year in the county jail then six months wearing a tether.

.... This guy got lucky. Especially if this is true:

If it were my daughter, the length of his sentence would not matter. I would be waiting with duct tape and a pair of pliers.

interesting. i bet if this would have happened the other way around we wouldnt be hearing bout it at all........

Different frame of reference.

I'd like the guy who mugged my sister dead for what he put her through. But I'm not advocating the death penalty for mugging.

If you touch my daughter, I'd also like you dead, except slowly. But I'm not lobbying for this a general punishment.

Well the first article sure left out some important details, didn't it?
So this was much more than a butt-grabbing incident. This was systematic and long-term sexual exploitation of at least a couple different teenage girls.
Actual sex. Child prostitution, basically. At seedy motels. THAT's the stuff parents of girls have nightmares about.

Sloppy journalism of the year award to the first news site that only reported the "lesser" actions he admitted as part of his plea bargain. I think it's fair to mention ALL the accusations against him, because certainly they had a lot of merit and accounted for this sentence.

For what it's worth, I think a few years in prison will be enough "punishment" when combined with a lifetime of intensive probation that borders on house arrest. The only issue is rehabilitation. Will he change his way of thinking in prison? Will he get counseling or mental help? When he gets out, will he still want to bang 13 year old girls, even if he chooses not to act on those impuses out of fear of getting arrested again (that's a risky proposition. What if he loses self-control?) It would be much better if he was genuinely turned-around and learned to view women closer to his own age as sexual partners. (if not his own age, at least the age of any of Hugh Hefner's last several brides).

You don't want to go to jail/prison from hurting a child , so I am sure he will get more once in .
