Weekend in New Orleans

I have my GWL and will be traveling to New Orleans for an extended weekend soon. From US Handgun Laws (https://handgunlaw.us/states/louisiana.pdf) that:
  • Must inform (LEO)
  • Signs carry weight (arguable but might be true)
  • New Orleans is relatively unsafe
Since I will be visiting bars on Bourbon Street (not into getting hammered but definitely drinking in bars), I'm wondering if I should leave my EDC at home and carry pepper spray or something else.

Thoughts?

Bingo. If it's a dangerous place, I wouldn't be drinking whether I was armed or unarmed. But that's just me. You do you. But I'm with Nemo; if there's any question, I just won't drink anything. I've never woken up on a Sunday morning and said "Wow, I made some great decisions last night while I was out drinking".

I don't think it is legal to carry in bars in Louisiana.

"A strict reading of the law would say you can't carry into any place that sells alcohol for consumption on the premises unless it has a Class-A Restaruant permit (if the alcohol is sold for consumption off the premises, you're fine though)."

Don't matter if legal or not. Carry means no imbibing. But please counselor, give us your learned analysis.

Ok, I support I should have been more clear. While I don't normally drink more than a couple (and that's my plan in New Orleans), I usually leave my gun at home or in the car (trunk area) when I visit a bar.

In New Orleans, I am much more concerned for safety than around here. However, I realized that out there I am more likely to drink more than 3 drinks so I think it is best to avoid carrying. I'll just need to crank up situational awareness to max level!

Alcohol is a bad thing to use to try to increase awareness.
