Delta drops NRA...

It seems that Delta is dropping the NRA from its discount program. They are joining the liberal screamfest and going after NRA members. They also want fuel tax breaks from GA. I suggest people write/call their State reps/Senators and ask that Delta be denied any fuel tax breaks. There needs to be some cost for betraying us to liberal hysteria.

I have already contacted both of my reps.

Great job, Delta! Thanks for taking a strong pro-2A stand!
:woohoo:

Right? They must have read this board and seen the threads, like this one, where the NRA is described as "sellouts" who "actively oppose gun rights", and anyone who supports them is a "fool". Obviously DL management took this message to heart and ended their NRA partnership so us Georgians could see how committed they are to real 2A activism.

Right?

You nailed it. It has been a rough week for a lot of people and some organizations. There have been many losers. For me the biggest loss of all was here at GPO. It seems open and civil discourse left. Just sad.

A lot of companies have piled on
United Airlines
Sirva (Allied Van lines and United Van lines)
Best Western
Wyndham Hotels
Met Life
Hertz
Enterprize
Avis
Symatech
First National Bank of Omaha (largest privately held bank in the U.S.)

That has to be a victory for us here

At this time I don't care for the NRA. My membership lapsed some time ago and I have not renewed.

HOWEVER...

If and when they get their act together and start saying "shall not be infringed" instead of bending over, then I will join them again.

But even now I will defend the NRA against the shrill anti-gun rights voices and companies that blame the NRA, either directly or indirectly, for the acts of evildoers.

Delta does not deserve to get the fuel tax-break, and I hope our Georgia General Assembly will see it that way as well.

Bad you are not still a member. There is a bit of revolt going on in the Board of Directors regarding policies and politics.

Almost like a replay of the revolt a few years back. Get things back to where they are meant to be.

Right. Life member benefactor here... I don't agree with everything they've done, but we gotta fight to keep it/make it the NRA we want. Criticizing from the sidelines won't change anything within the organization. Gun owners should be uniting not dividing. Support the NRA when they're right, but hold them accountable when they are wrong. They're still a net positive.

After you NRA members get your house in order (dumping LaPierre and Cocks), I'll consider joining. Until that happens, I'll be supporting other gun groups.

Georgia's Lt. Gov. Threatens To Kill Tax Break For Delta Air Lines Amid NRA Spat

Georgia's lieutenant governor has threatened to block a proposed tax break for Delta Air Lines unless the Atlanta-based carrier restores a discount program for National Rifle Association members that was pulled in the wake of the shooting in Parkland, Fla., earlier this month.
In the latest fallout from the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 people, Republican Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle said he would "kill" legislation to give the airline a sales tax exemption on jet fuel "unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with" the powerful gun-rights advocacy group.

This. My understanding is that Delta got the sales tax break when they were in financial trouble years ago. They seem to be pretty squared away financially today. It should have nothing to do with the NRA.

I would like to know what other groups/organizations are in their discount program. They claimed (from the news article I read about this issue) that they removed the NRA from the program because they don't want to show favoritisms for so called "controversial groups/organizations".

I could buy their argument if the NRA is an outlier in the current program but I would call foul if they have group discounts for say Planned Parenthood or some other left wing group.

Leave it up to journalist not to ask the above question and take Delta's word for it without fact checking who all is in the current program.

I see Deal is pushing for this tax break in spite of what Cagle said. Democrats are also asking for Cagle to be investigated for threatening to kill the tax break if Delta doesn't cave to his demands.

Part of me thinks using government to push political beliefs on corporations is a bad thing. More of me says that train left the station long ago and it's about time our side started playing by the new rules.

I heard a caller this AM on the Shanon Burke show mention that he had called Delta a couple of weeks ago and asked about this NRA "discount" and they told him that it was *just* for flights to DFW...for the NRA convention. If that's a fact, then I think it's just a stupid ass PR move on Delta to make the announcement. Did any of the liberal freaks out there even know this existed until DAL opened their mouths?

delta now says it supports the 2A. Delta is having it's marketing department look at all of their promotions and this was only to prevent one of them from becoming political. there may be other promotions that get the axe for the same reason.

Now if you believe that you are more gullible than I am.

There is a bright side to this whole thing though. Delta only sold 13 of the discount fares through the NRA Member Discount Program. Dropping the program only cost Delta a little over $3 million per NRA member who have taken advantage of the program.

Karma is a stone bitch.

Delta allowed a junior social media engagement specialist to effectively write corporate policy. Don't think this was an accident. The anti-2A organizations have had this playbook ready for a long time. They don't just dance in victims blood anymore, they use it to fuel social media outrage. This wasn't just a bunch of companies deciding to suddenly drop the NRA, this was a carefully orchestrated plan that was waiting for the right media "lever" to make it happen. Every one of the companies "disengaging" had their press releases already written by a supporter of the anti-2A movement, most likely a media/social media flak. Delta just happened to be in a position that pro-2a folks (even if they are a politician taking a position of convenience) could hit back.

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo...awmakers-punish-delta-air-lines-over-nra-feud

"Republican lawmakers in Georgia made good on a threat to eliminate a proposed tax break for Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, after the carrier declined to reverse a decision to cut ties with the National Rifle Association."

"Ignoring warnings that taking on Delta could harm the state's pro-business image, the GOP-controlled House, which had earlier approved a larger tax bill containing the exemption, voted 135-24 on Thursday for a new version stripped of the provision. Meanwhile, some experts have raised First Amendment concerns over the legislature's punitive move."

While I am not a fan of government using the stick and carrot method of controlling companies, I certainly see that Delta was game to play the game.

And if you play in the sandbox, it's gonna get gritty sometimes.

I'm sure that Delta was just salivating for the right blood-dancing moment to do a pull-out from the NRA.

And they got exactly what they deserved.

The general summary of this on FOX today with Cavuto was that Delta committed a monumentally moronic business move that lost them huge good will with a lot more than 13 people, gained them next to nothing, oh and lost them millions in tax breaks. Good going to the stupendously stupid corporate leaders at Delta.
