"As the survivor of a mass shooting I can tell you from first-hand experience that all of you protesting and taking days off from school insult the memory of those who were killed and abuse and insult me and every other lover of liberty by your every action," Hughes wrote.

The musician went on to criticize the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School - who organized the rally, and where a gunman killed 17 students and faculty members on Feb. 14 -- for "playing hooky at the expense of 16 of your classmates' blood," adding that, "it might be funny if it wasn't so pathetic and disgusting."

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/3...tage-walkout-in-support-second-amendment.html

"A group of students at a Central Florida high school walked out of class Friday as part of a protest in support of the Second Amendment.

Some of the students who participated in the walkout at Rockledge High School told WFTV that when the movement to honor the victims and survivors of the shooting in Parkland became political, they felt silenced."

Oh, look. Emma Gonzalez, the little bald headed lesbian, is still bloviating and running her mouth, oblivious to any potential ramifications since she won't have to deal with any of that.

On Sunday, the most recognizable far-left activist from Parkland, Florida, called for the confiscation of all semi-automatic weapons from American society in the wake of a shooting in Tennessee.

Well, fortunately turning in semi-automatic firearms (i.e. most firearms) isn't necessary anymore as these pioneering young students have voluntarily waived their right to privacy by utilizing clear backpacks to make it easy to inspect for firearms being transported on/around the school.

Thank you Parkland Students for stepping up and helping firearm owners keep their firearms.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office has finally found someone they're willing to confront inside a school. Sounds like Sheriff Israel is desperate to throw the heat that's on him onto anyone else he can. In particular, someone who's making him and his department look bad.

I get what the national security advisor (Bradley P. Moss) is saying - you're going to have to accept the government butting into your private life and violating your rights in the interest of collective security. I just don't agree with him.

This animation of the Stoneman-Douglas massacre was hard to watch for obvious reasons. Many opportunities for an armed staffer to have stopped the killing.

Life and death became a matter of chance in Parkland school massacre http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/b...-commission-first-meeting-20180424-story.html

An animation presented during a Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission meeting shows the reported timeline of Nikolas Cruz's actions inside the school on February 14, 2018.

Blue dots represent staff, and green dots are students. The dot turns yellow if the person was wounded, purple if the victim died. The black dot with a line is shooter Nikolas Cruz.

Once all this incompetency is brought to light, what will be done to the incompetent individuals and agencies that will really make any difference in the future?
The panel plans to examine Cruz's life from the day he was born until his Feb. 14 arrest, and every interaction he had with any official or agency and every tip received about his conduct. He is jailed on 17 charges of first-degree murder and 17 charges of attempted first-degree murder. State prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
[...]
The commission has very broad powers, including the authority to subpoena witnesses and review records that would normally be confidential.
[...]
"Everyone is going to find out just how much incompetency there was and it led to my daughter and the other 16 victims being murdered," said Pollack, Meadow's father.

"In an overwhelming vote, the Broward Sheriff's Office Deputies Association announced it has "no confidence" in Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel and is going to ask Florida Governor Rick Scott to remove him from office over his handling of the Parkland shooting.

Out of the 628 officers in the union, 534 voted that they had no confidence in Sheriff Israel. Union President Jeff Bell said that it was the "union's first vote of no confidence against a sheriff.""

The animation video shows victims just sitting in classrooms waiting to be shot through the class door window. Well into the shooting and they are still positioned out in the open of the classroom never moving out of sight of the classroom door and out of the line of fire. Possibly 10+ students could have been saved by just moving to cover.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/b...-commission-first-meeting-20180424-story.html

More thought needs to go into the lockdown procedures at schools. There were a lot of victims left out in the hallway and not able to access a room for cover.

Schools' culture of tolerance lets students like Nikolas Cruz slide
Megan O'Matz and Scott Travis Contact Reporters Sun Sentinel

Broward Schools have grown so tolerant of misbehavior that students like Nikolas Cruz are able to slide by for years without strict punishment for conduct that could be criminal.

The culture of leniency allows children to engage in an endless loop of violations and second chances, creating a system where kids who commit the same offense for the 10th time may be treated like it's the first, according to records and interviews with people familiar with the process.

Cruz was suspended at least 67 days over less than a year and a half at Westglades Middle School, and his problems continued at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, until he finally was forced to leave.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel obtained Cruz's discipline records, reviewed discipline policies and found:

-- Students can be considered first-time offenders even if they commit the same offenses year after year.

-- The district's claim of reforming bad behavior is exaggerated.

-- Lenient discipline has an added PR benefit for the district: lower suspensions, expulsions and arrests along with rising graduation rates.

It's all about the money and looking good statistically and politically. And playing the odds. Are we nurturing a killer? Meh. If it goes down we'll just clean it up and carry on and hope nobody is the wiser.

The Sun-Sentinel, like most of the south Florida papers, is notoriously leftist. But a good corruption story is still worthwhile.

Regardless of his newly minted pension, Peterson's problems haven't even started yet.
Peterson hasn't been criminally charged in relation to the shooting, but his pension benefits could possibly be forefeited, according to the Sentinel, pending a Florida state inquiry into how police responded to the shooting.

Peterson was named in a wrongful death suit last month by Andrew Pollack, father of shooting victim Meadow, who tweeted the former cop "let those children and teachers die."

The courts have ruled that Leo has no duty to protect, so he will most likely just be out the legal fees needed for his defense. Hopefully this will open a lot of eyes. Government will not protect you, despite the never ending calls for more gov. I hope people get woke.

#259 ·
I agree that the deputy should have gone in and engaged the shooter, but I have just recently read two different articles from two different sources that said the Supreme Court has ruled on at least two different occasions that the police have no duty to protect citizens. If this is the case, was he legally obligated to go in and engage the shooter?

#260 ·
Legally, no. Morally, yes. LEO training on active shooters in schools since Columbine has focused on rapid confrontation as the key to ending the incident. He ignored training (or Broward county neglected training).

Scot Peterson, disgraced Parkland school cop, starts getting $8,702-a-month pension

Rest at http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/05/1...ol-cop-starts-getting-8702-month-pension.html
Ever wonder why Peterson was allowed to retire with full benefits instead of just being summarily fired? Maybe there was some quid pro quo involved. :-k

"Now I ask you: If this wouldn't have been the sheriff's son, would a sexual assault have been reduced to a simple battery?" Borges asked in his statement. "Was deputy Peterson allowed to retire with his pension because he protected Sheriff Israel's son from having a felony arrest? These are the questions that I and I'm sure many people from this county want answered."

Unintended consequences? 30 kids charged with felony crimes. This must be the latest version of swatting. If this keeps up it will not end well for the cops or the students. Someone, most likely very innocent, will end up wounded or dead. This is just one county in Florida. What are the odds it won't or hasn't already spread to other states? Why isn't the national media reporting about this? This is what happens when the gun controllers - of all ages - keep flaunting their "feels" in the public's face.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/feat...tona-student-false-report-20180530-story.html
A Deltona Middle School student was charged with making a false report on Tuesday after sending a text message about an active shooter and a video of running feet to make the story seem real.

The 14-year-old boy is one of more than 30 Volusia County students who have been charged with felonies related to false reports of school violence since the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The Deltona student sent a message to a friend that said, "Schoil (sic) shooting much scared plz (sic) pray," according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. He told a school resource deputy he did it as a prank, and he didn't want to dispel the rumor for several hours because he wanted others to think the supposed shooting was happening in real time.

The student was placed on home detention before a scheduled court appearance Wednesday morning.

The home of Parkland survivor David Hogg was swatted this morning

The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student activist David Hogg was the victim of a "swatting" incident Tuesday morning.

A SWAT team responded to a call just after 8:30 a.m. of a barricaded subject at Hogg's residence. The caller said there was a person with a weapon inside of the home, Broward County Sheriff's spokesman Joy Oglesby told CNN.

I am not defending those Broward slimeballs at all, but it it my understanding that security cameras often use a 15 or 20 minute buffer, because they are set up to record based on motion-sensing. When motion-sensing is triggered, from that moment on, plus the previous buffer time, recording is stored. The system doesn't constantly record and store continuous nothingness.

Now, it may also be done so they can fix things. Perhaps a 2 for 1 deal with the buffer.

Angry dad demands firing of Stoneman Douglas security watchman, coach

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/b...ing-campus-monitor-status-20180605-story.html

One of the outraged fathers who lost a child in the Parkland massacre demanded Tuesday that school administrators dump the security watchman who first spotted the gunman but failed to lock down the school.

"He won't be working there anymore," Andrew Pollack promised after visiting Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with another father, Fred Guttenberg. "I went up there and took care of it. He's not going to work there anymore."

Pollack was speaking of Andrew Medina, the campus monitor who saw Nikolas Cruz emerge from an Uber on Feb. 14, carrying a "pretty big bag," and watched him make a beeline for the freshman building.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported last week that Medina, who was unarmed, never stopped Cruz or interrogated him. Medina started to pursue Cruz in a golf cart, but the teen saw him and took off running, according to a transcript of a sworn interview the day of the shooting.
Stoneman Douglas security staffers barred from school grounds and reassigned

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/b...hooting-medina-reassigned-20180606-story.html

Two coaches who served as security watchmen at Marjory Stoneman Douglas have been barred and reassigned after reports about their response during the Feb. 14 shooting.

Andrew Medina, who was unarmed, failed to stop shooter Nikolas Cruz, question him or lock down the school. He instead radioed ahead to warn fellow monitor David Taylor that a suspicious kid was headed his way.

When Taylor, who also was unarmed, heard the gunfire erupt in the 1200 building where he was, he hid in a janitor's closet.

"Due to information that has recently appeared in the media and which is being reviewed by the District, Andrew Medina and David Taylor have received administrative reassignments away from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School until further notice," Broward Schools spokeswoman Nadine Drew said Wednesday.

I've been expecting to see more details come out about where the real blame lies in many of these school shootings and this is a prime example. Yes, Cruz was a loose canon but the entire school system and its procedures is a major part of the problem. The blood isn't on my hands, your hands or the NRA.

He declined to say whom he met with at the school but said: "They're waiting for legal to do some stuff" to terminate Medina. "This is Broward. They can't fire anybody. They have to go through procedures."
Another major problem with not just school systems but all public entities - public employee unions. In this case the Federation of Public Employees.
