I Just Ordered an M&P Shield 9mm (and a Holster too)

My EDC for the last few years has been a Sig P229. It is kind of big, but not too big. And, it is kind of heavy, but not too heavy. Then, shortly after I got my Sig, my older son bought a Shield 9mm. I liked the feel of it in my hands, but I never got the chance to shoot it before he sold it.

Now, fast-forward to the last few weeks. My son let me carry, and shoot, his current EDC, a Glock 43. I really liked the size and the weight of the gun on my hip. On the other hand, I didn’t really like shooting it. However, while I was at my local indoor range with his Glock, I tried out a couple of single-stacks rentals, including the Shield 9mm. That was enough to make me start checking prices.

Last night I found one on sale on gunbuyer.com (no affiliation) for $299.00 with free shipping. Now I’m just waiting for the notice of shipment, with tracking info, to my local FFL. And, after reading several reviews, and watching a bunch of Youtube videos, I went ahead and ordered a Vedder LIghtTuck IWB holster for the gun also.

Stay tuned for updates!

I had a friend with an M&P Shield. We both struggled to shoot it well at the range, vs. similar size guns like my Walther PPS. He ended up selling it to his brother, who had a trigger job done on the gun and a barrel replacement. Now it shoots fantastic. Hopefully it isn't indicative of a general issue with the Shields. I really liked the way the gun felt and really wanted to like it, but neither of us could get decent shots out of it. Shortly after that I went the Sig P320 route for my polymer firearms (prior to that was Springfield XDm and I still keep the Walther PPS pistols as BUGs).

New Shield owner here too for the same reason as the OP except I went with the Shield 45. When I want to carry a little thinner and lighter than my CZ PCR it will be the Shield.
Found it online just before Christmas for $409.00; no safety, Trijicon nights sights and 3 mags (1 flush 2 extended). Have 150 rounds through it right now with no issue, very nice shooting firearm.
Also picked up a Cook's paddle holster but would like an IWB for it at some point, I like the looks of that Vedder LightTuck you are looking at.

I got my Shield today, but my Vedder holster is still a few days away, so I went ahead and picked up a Blackhawk SERPA CQC holster. I would have gotten one anyway for the range, CC under vest, light jacket, etc.

Range trip photo tomorrow.

The Shield 45 essentially the love child of the HK-45 and the Taurus TCP.

If we were discussing handrails, the Taurus is that iron pipe that's been welded on both ends and painted in a hurry with thick paint and a large brush, the H&K would be that oil rubbed mahogany spiral rail on a sweeping grand stair, and the S&W is the 6010 Colonial handrail in a medium to fine grain oak with a clear poly finish (and sexy curves if you pay extra). They all meet fire code and they all save your butt if you've got one in hand when you need it but each has its own price-point and corresponding level of fit, finish, and attention to detail in initial design. The difference is not really manufacturing quality as much as overall refinement.

Its a S&W or a Taurus. That should answer your question.

So far, I'm really enjoying the Shield.

I finally got my Vedder LightTuck holster today. The fit and finish seem very nice, and the metal clip feels really sturdy. It came already set at the highest ride height, and I adjusted the cant to as close to zero as I could, while still being able to get a full grip on the firearm. I also adjusted the retention.

I had the 9mm Shield and had a long great relationship till I bumped into the 45mm Shield and started running around with it. The 45 sleeps with me now. I know I am a real dog.

Yep and John Browning turns in his grave every time one is purchased but they will still put down a bad guy. And yes they are all ugly as sin but then that is what a brown paper bag is for.

Like I said before and likely will again-- I gave up plastic guns when I was 10.
