New ApplicationSubmitted: Jan. 28, 2013
Total Time Taken: about 20 to22 daysTotal Payment: 67.25

Process:

Very easy. Make sure you bring exactly 67.25 to the probate court in Hinesville. Or what ever the cost at the time is. After you show your documents (the georgia state website will tell you what you will need and where every thing is) you fill out the fourm. Afterwords you will be called back and you will sign some more papers then they take your picture for you're permit. Then all you have to do is take your paper work to the liberty county jail down ogalthorp highway off of airport road and get your prints taken. After that you have to play the waiting game.

Comments:

They were very friendly and knew what needed to be done and will be more than happy to help you. If you want to get done quick go early!

New ApplicationSubmitted: Dec. 29, 2012
Total Time Taken: still awaitingTotal Payment: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Provide $35 cash and drivers lice

Process:

The process was fairly simple. The probate office is located on the second floor of the (new) court house. The fee was $67.25, I was informed this new rate is a decrease, and it's paid in cash only. This cost includes the finger printing done at the prision (180 Paul Sikes Dr., Hinesville, GA. 31313). You will fill out a two page form, wait to be seen and go back for a photo ID session. The clerk will have you fill out another form, swear in that all info is truthful, than take your picture. You will than get your receipt to take to the prision for finger printing.

Comments:

When you go to the probabte, the clerk will ask for three things; Drivers' License, Cash, and some other form to validate residence. Since you drive there, just take your vehicle registration form. This combo will work. Once you go to the prision for finger printing, just bring a copy of your receipt from the probate office (the probate clerk will give you this and tell you the same). The clerk will scan your finger tips and your done. The prison hours are M-F 9am-4pm.

The Probate office is on the second floor of the new Justice building on Main st. The cost is $67.25 cash only. You will get two reciepts for you money. Take the copy of the reciepts(made by the probate office) to the County Sheriffs office on Airport road to get your fingerprints taken within 5 days of filling out the application. Once the background comes back good the Probate office will call to pickup your license. It took me about 20 minutes at the probate office and 10 minutes at the sheriffs office.

Comments:

The ladies at the probate office were super friendly. I even tried to put on my meanest face for my picture but they all had me in such a good mood it was hard not to smile the whole time. At no time did I feel like I was doing shadey, underhanded or wrong, I have had more trouble paying my cable bill than I had with the whole permit process.
