Process:

The Court House is not in the middle of town anymore and is kind of out in the country. Filled out paperwork for firearms license at Probate Court (on second floor) and gave them $15 in cash. Went downstairs and around the corner to the detention center to be fingerprinted. They used some type of scanner instead of ink and cards. Paid them $50 in cash. The GBI increased their rates this summer apparently.

New ApplicationSubmitted: May. 20, 2010
Total Time Taken: 6 daysTotal Payment: $65

Process:

Went to probate office on the second floor of the new courthouse, filled out the application and paid $15 cash. Went back out the front door and around the corner to the detention center to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting was $50 cash. The whole application process took about 45 minutes. I applied on a Friday and received my license in the mail the on following Thursday.

Comments:

The county website says that they accept applications from 9am - 12:45pm, but the little piece of paper taped to the clipboard with the applications says that they only accept applications from 9am - 12pm. They will do fingerprints from 9am - 1pm.

Total Time Taken: 5 daysTotal Payment: $65

Process:

Paid $15 cash to the Probate Court and filled out the license and provided right index fingerprint. Produced DL. Went downstairs to the jail, waited 10 minutes and was digitally fingerprinted and paid $50 cash. Process was very fast and efficient. Friendly personnel in Probate and jail. License arrived in main about one week later.

Comments:

Efficient process and friendly, helpful staff.
