Process:

Go to the old Courthouse on the square. Fill out the form at the Probate office. Pay $80 cash. Get your picture taken. Then go to the Sheriff's office/jail for fingerprinting. No wait at either location (Thursday afternoon). The entire process took 45 minutes from arriving at the courthouse, filling out the form, getting picture taken, driving to the jail and getting fingerprinted. The $80 payment at the Probate covers everything so you don't have to pay anything when you get fingerprinted.

Comments:

Coweta County employees are friendly and helpful. The lady working at the counter offered to call me if my new license didn't come in before my old one expired so I could get a temporary.

cash only exact change. Took less than 15 minutes at each location.

Comments:

70 dollars for the permit and 5 dollars for the prints at the sheriffs office. Cash only. Make sure your drivers license has your correct address. They wont take it unless it is correct. No other forms of ID are accepted. Stupid rules but they get to make them so you have to comply if you want the permit. They were easy to deal with.

Everybody was friendly and did not ask for any other information. The Probate Court is now in the old Courthouse. From the Greenville St. entrance it is the first door on the left.

Renewal ApplicationSubmitted: Feb. 22, 2011
Total Time Taken: 45 minutes at presentTotal Payment: $75.00

Process:

Went to renew my license and was told by the Probate clerk that the State had changed the law and renewals were no longer allowed, each permit holder had to file like it was a new permit each time. I was handed a one page form to fill out with the standard information on my existing permit, except at the bottom it requested my employer and employer's address. I asked the clerk if this was required by Georgia law, she said it was not but something that the County wanted. I asked could I not supply the information and she said I could, so I did not. The clerk took the form and retired to a computer to generate the next series of forms from the information. In total there were 5 additional forms requiring information and signatures. I completed the forms, paid $70 to the court, the clerk took my right index finger print and handed me the remaining forms to take to the Sheriff's office for fingerprinting. The Probate Court accepts cash only, I did not need change as I had the correct amount. I was handed a receipt from the Probabte Clerk, but was not ionformed as I was during previous renewals that I should keep the receipt with me in addition to my expiring permit to serve as a temporary license until my new one arrives. However, I will be doing so as I have in the past. I don't know if they no longer issue temporary permits, or if she simply did not inform me of information that I may have needed. I traveled 15 minutes to the bonding side of the County jail/SO. I handed the paperwork from the Probabte Court to the Deputy behind the glass, handed her $5 exactly as they do not make change per the Probabte Clerk, was handed a receipt and had to wait about 5 minutes for another Deputy to electronically finggerprint me. He retained my paperwork with the fingerprints and I was told that I should hear somethinng in 30-60days.

Comments:

The Probate Court staff was nice and professional. I actually made a mistake on a form and asked for their assistance, I was instructed to mark out my intial response Yes/No and mark the correct box and continue. I declined taking that action and requested a new form to complete. The clerk complied and I was provided a new form. The Sheriff's Office Deputies were nice and professional as well. Neither of the parties wasted words or time, simply straight to business.

Process:

I did the application today. It took about 15 minutes at the court house, 10 minutes transit time to the jail (go to bonding) and then about 10 minutes to do the fingerprint thing. The only suprise is the license fee has gone up to $70.00 but fingerprinting is still only $5.00. Everyone was courteous and helpful. I was told I should have the license in my hands withing 30 days. I did all transactions in cash and made sure to have the correct change though the gals at the court house would have made change.

Comments:

No problems at all and I did have other business in beautiful downtown Newnan so I made a morning of it.
