Process:

The office was not open on the first day I attempted to start the process. Calling ahead would have also informed me that the Probate office opens at 8:30, not 8:00 am. They processed my application for $75, but did not have fingerprinting capability. That portion of the process only took 10 minutes, but I was first in line. I was sent to the county jail for fingerprinting. They don't start until 9:00 am. When you arrive, ask for the paperwork and get it back to them so they will possibly get you in a more timely manner. I spent an hour at the jail visitor area for a 5 minute task (may depend upon if they are processing suspects, etc). The officer that did the printing stated that she was doing 4 times as many WCP applications. I spent nearly 2 hours for what could have been 30 minutes.

Applied for license on Dec. 7 2012 received them Dec. 19 2012. Just go to Catoosa county courthouse, they will direct you to the probate court,(no cell phone, lighter, just take keys in) The women are very nice in the office. You fill out a paper about 20 questions, get your picture made. Sign a couple of more times then give them $75.00. You then must go to the sheriffs office on Hwy 41 to be finger printed. Do not go between 12 and 1 PM they will not do finger prints then (lunchtime I guess). I showed up at 11:58 filled out a paper and they took finger prints about 10 min. later. She told me I just got there in time. Total time 35 to 40 minutes.

Process:

The first thing you have to do is go to the probate court office where you will be helped by some of the nicest ladies you will ever meet. Once you get to the office you will fill out the simple application and show a copy of your valid GA drivers license or state ID, after doing that they will take a photo for your handgun license and you will pay a one time fee of 75 dollars which covers everything. After you get your picture made and pay your fee you will get a copy of your paperwork to take down the street to the sheriffs dept. where you will be fingerprinted using an electronic printing machine, very fast and very convenient. After the printing you are done and it is only a 2 week turn around for your license which will be mailed to your house.
