Total Time Taken:
Probate Court accepts applications for a firearms permits from 9am until 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Applicant must present government issued photo identification (such as drivers' license, which also serve of proof of residence in Ware County). A short form is filled out, and payment of $76.00 (cash, check, or money order) must be made the Ware County Probate Court. Paperwork is given to applicant, who then must take the paperwork to the Ware County Sheriff's Office (487 Harris Road Waycross, GA 31503) for finger printing. Finger printing is done on Tuesdays thru Thursdays, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Fingerprinting is also done on Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The fee for finger printing was already included in the $76.00, so no money is due at the Sheriff's office. The official turnaround time for you to receive your license is within two weeks. I received mine within a week.
Both the staff at the Probate Court and the Ware County Sheriff's office were extremely courteous and professional at all times. I only had to wait approximately five minutes for either location.
